Dual education represents one of the most effective models for aligning the education system with the real needs of industry. Through close cooperation between educational institutions and companies, this approach enables young people to gain practical skills, learn in a real working environment, and transition more smoothly from education into employment.
Gruner Serbian has been an active participant in the dual education system since its introduction in 2016, when the company established its first collaboration with GIZ and the Technical School in Vlasotince. From the very beginning, the objectives of this initiative have been clear:
- to bridge the gap between education and real industrial environments,
- to enable students to acquire knowledge through hands-on experience, and
- to develop skilled professionals in line with the demands of modern industry and ongoing projects.
Over nearly a decade of involvement, a significant number of students have completed training within the company’s training center. Many of them have gone on to start their professional careers at Gruner Serbian, confirming the long-term value of this model for both: young professionals in Southern Serbia and the industry itself .
From early stages to program expansion
Gruner Serbian was among the first companies in Southern Serbia to join the dual education system. In its early phase, the program focused on the Industrial Mechanic profile. Over time, in response to the evolution of production processes and increasing industry complexity, the program expanded to include additional profiles such as Electrician, Mechatronics Technician, and CNC Technician.
This expansion reflects the company’s continuous development and the growing need for skilled professionals capable of meeting the challenges of modern manufacturing.
Company training center: Where theory meets practice
At the core of dual education within the company is the training center – a dedicated environment where theoretical knowledge is directly applied in practice. Equipped with a range of industrial machines, the center allows students to participate in segments of real, ongoing projects within a controlled and supportive setting.
Within the training center, students have the opportunity to:
- become familiar with industrial machinery and equipment,
- understand key manufacturing processes, and
- gain insight into the software aspects of modern industrial systems.
Throughout their practical training, students are guided by licensed instructors – experienced employees of the company who combine technical expertise with mentoring skills. Their guidance has helped shape generations of young professionals taking their first steps into the industry.
This approach ensures that classroom knowledge is immediately reinforced through real-world application, making the transition into professional environments more seamless while allowing students to gain valuable experience during their education.
Partnership with the Technical School in Vlasotince
The collaboration with the Technical School in Vlasotince forms the foundation of the dual education program. Over the years, this partnership has included the organization of practical training, continuous communication, and the exchange of knowledge and ideas between teachers and company mentors.
This ongoing cooperation plays a key role in continuously improving both the educational and industrial systems, whose alignment is essential for long-term sustainability.
Gruner Serbian also regularly participates in educational events and workshops organized by the school, allowing the company to stay closely connected with students’ expectations, ambitions, and development.
Expanding cooperation: Universities and Student internships
In addition to its role in dual education, Gruner Serbian actively collaborates with higher education institutions through student internships, study visits, career fairs, and other academic events.
Over the years, partnerships have been established with institutions such as the Faculty of Electronic Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, and Faculty of Sciences and Mathematics in Niš. Through formal cooperation agreements, students are given the opportunity to complete internships within the company.
This further strengthens the connection between academia and industry, while enabling students to apply their knowledge in real production environments.
A long-term vision: Developing talent and industry
Gruner Serbian’s commitment to education reflects a long-term investment in people and industrial growth.
Through continuous engagement with students and young professionals, the company contributes to:
- the development of a skilled workforce,
- the strengthening of local industry, and
- the alignment of education with the needs of the labor market.
In this way, Gruner Serbian supports the creation of a sustainable system in which learning extends beyond the classroom and continues through hands-on experience. For the most dedicated and high-performing trainees, this path can also lead to future employment within the company.
